With a keen interest in the protection and enhancement of our environment, Mark Wadey has dedicated over 30 years of his working life to the tree profession. Having acquired a wealth of experience working with other high-level professionals, he has a mature technical understanding of the industry, and the ability to adopt a modern and practical common-sense approach to the management of trees.
His partner Emma Sanford has a variety of experience in administration that also spans over 30 years. She is a proven business manager with a wide range of skills that have been refined to the highest standard during her time working with architects, consultants, lawyers and business managers.
Based in the heart of Dorset, they have joined forces to bring a well-rounded, efficient and professional tree consultancy advice service. Collectively, they work to the highest standards and pride themselves on having a friendly approach and hassle-free service that they bring to their wide-ranging client base.
Mark began working with trees in the late 1980s as a forestry contractor, obtaining useful experience in the practical aspects of forestry practice and woodland management. He later moved into arboriculture as an apprentice tree climber to gain valuable practical experience in managing trees. Another seven years later, he found himself in the role of Arboricultural Officer at The Borough of Poole, dealing with all aspects of municipal tree management. This gave him a comprehensive insight into the social, legal and safety aspects associated with the management of urban trees in the planning system. It also led onto an offer of employment at Barrell Tree Consultancy, one of the world’s leading experts in the field of Arboriculture, which he moved to in 2002. For 16 years he worked as a consultant gaining vast experience and knowledge, culminating in becoming an Associate Director. This also afforded him the opportunity to become an Arboricultural Association (AA) Registered Consultant and Chartered Arboriculturist, reaching the top of the profession.
In the last few years of being a freelance consultant, Mark also works alongside a large established AA approved tree contracting company to help promote their tree works and soil injection services. This involves liaising with their many high-profile clients and organising complex projects around the country. A very different role that often leads to a diverse range of new tree management challenges.
In 2009, Mark was invited by the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) to sit on their Professional Standards Committee and attend meetings where decision making and connecting with other members of the profession is required at the highest level. Since 2012, he has been involved as an assessor for the Arboricultural Association Registered Consultants scheme which requires thorough assessment of work undertaken by the country’s leading experts.
He has also given lectures in Australia, America, Canada, and to audiences around the UK about heritage tree management and subjects relating to planning and development work.
